A big thank you to the people of Braintree, who once again gave generously for this years Children-in-Need appeal.

From the very early (5.30am) collections at Braintree Railway Station through to the collections at Freeport Outlet Village, we managed to collect the amazing amount of £1940.42.

This has already been forward to the appeal and we are sure that it will be benefiting Children across the UK very soon.

Special thanks to Braintree Railway Station for the coffees (it was cold), Freeport Shopping Village, and our many volunteer collectors, including the “The Pink Ladies” of Witham Lionesses.

The two Lions successfully got as far as Cromer – arriving just before 6.00pm.
All of the bus crews were friendly and very interested in what we were doing. Passengers also.
The LION was a major source of interest.
With the extra sponsorship from Barclays  they have raised well over the £500 mark for the boys/girls club.

Today two of our more ‘senior’ Lions joined the annual Chelmsford Jail Break, organised by the Essex Boys Clubs. Their plan to see how far they can get using their Bus Passes!
They had planned a route that will get them to Cromer in Norfolk (well how far do you think they can get on a bus in 12 hours).
At the time of writing this we know they got as far a Colchester. We await news of their final destination. When we know where they got to we will update this entry.
Of course they are doing this to raise money for both the Braintree Lions and Essex Boys Clubs. We are grateful to all their sponsors, especially Barclays Bank who are ‘match-funding’ one of the Lions.

Braintree Lions as part of its ongoing fund-raising efforts have this month donated a much needed portable heart defibrillator to Blandford Medical centre in Braintree.

When a person is in cardiac arrest, time is of the essence, minutes can be the difference between full recovery, death or permanent damage. For this reason, the portable defibrillator is a key piece of equipment in any emergency response kit.

Research shows that GPs equipped with defibrillators can improve survival by up to 60% if the patient is treated immediately or soon after entering cardiac arrest. For every minute that passes chances of survival decrease by 14 per cent.

The machine which is fully portable and lightweight can be accessed within minutes at the centre and can be used time and time again.

The device which costs just under £1000 is a huge resource to the medical centre and not widely available elsewhere.
Braintree Lions presented the defibrillator to Blandford House Centre Manager, Caroline Hird, Dr Williams and Dr. Thompson by Lion President Jim Cave.
